2005 E450 Quigley 4x4, Lifeline Box

Post by CJLev »

I’ve owned my Ambulance for a week and a day, now, and I’ve already taken the sawsall to her.

I’ve been obsessed with the idea of a campulance since following one into Yellowstone in the summer of 2020. My obsession shifted to Transit, to Sprinter, but I’d always come back to a cool ambo build. So the hunt started. I began searching in earnest recently, I wanted to start this project. I lost a couple auctions, I contacted a couple sellers. Then I found a 2005 E450 with a Quigley conversion - reached out to the seller, he did a great walkthrough video (I’ll link if there’s interest), and we arranged a fly and buy.

My first time driving it was a 11 hour drive. She had one mechanical problem (turbo fell on its face babying it up a hill ) she’s starting to sing more with synthetic, some fresh filters, and use - no codes were thrown.

Build requirements as of 10/24/2021 are:

*Air conditioning that’ll last for a reasonable period of time, off grid. I have dogs. I sometimes go places that they aren’t welcome. Mini split, solar, a months salary of batteries. Mount may be in a vented cabinet, might be out front, I need to research flexible lines, as I’d love this to be rear door mounted - I’m contemplating mounting underneath if I can feel comfortable I won’t be buying a new box every season.

* Shower I can stand in. The rough demo was completed today in the passenger rear compartment. I plan to use a nautilus door here if it’s compatible with the other build goals.

* A toilet. And it’s gotta not stink. Most likely this will live in the shower, though the height difference is going to make this a challenge.

*Large fridge & freezer. I like to eat, I’m not getting terrible mileage to eat jerky.

*Queen size bed. I have dogs. They sleep with me. I’m toying with a couple whacky ideas, more on this later once I’ve made a decision. It WILL convert, as the other side is the kitchen.

* Kennel spot - sometimes they don’t sleep with me. Dogs are great. Unless they aren’t.

*Interior bike storage. It’d be great if I can fit the motorized kind.

*Convertible office space with a large monitor that’ll also double as the media screen. Lots of thinking to do on this one.

Seller photos attached to this post, now will be on the next.

Today’s progress. This will be the shower area, will give another door to open for light and air. The driver side is staying largely untouched.
